A former Dallas Cowboys player was found to have a degenerative brain disease. Marshawn Kneeland, a former defensive end, had Stage 1 chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or CTE, when he died.

The diagnosis was made after a post-mortem analysis of his brain tissue. This analysis was done at the Boston University CTE Center and the results were released by the Concussion and CTE Foundation.

Further details about Kneeland's diagnosis and the disease are available from the Concussion and CTE Foundation, which describes CTE as a condition linked to repeated traumatic brain injuries.
